Am HaZikaron Institute: Genealogy Project

Am Ha Zikaron

Since its founding in 1998, researchers and volunteers at Am HaZikaron have worked on rebuilding dozens of histories and genealogies of Jewish families from all over the world. The institute’s work has aroused considerable public interest, leading to multiple media reports and appearances.

Funding from GPG helps the institute put together educational materials and hold lectures Jewish heritage for the 500 Taglit-birthright Israel participants from the FSU.

Genesis also treats this project as a pilot for researching possible applications of genealogy studies for strengthening Jewish identity among Russian-speaking youth. As the foundation continues to think about methods for integrating genealogy into its educational projects, it supports the institute’s development of tool kits for Jews from the FSU interested in researching their family roots.
