Funding Strategy

Genesis believes that philanthropic entities are most effective when they focus on a limited range of issues. Funding is therefore strictly limited to projects that advance our mission of fostering Jewish identity among Russian-speaking Jews.

GPG pursues a proactive grant-making policy, limiting consideration to grant proposals that have been submitted by invitation only.

In our commitment to long-term change we are open to making multi-annual grants. We are also prepared to support our grantees with capacity-building and strategic planning grants.

In selecting grantees, we seek out well-governed, transparent organizations which demonstrate the following criteria:

  • a mission congruent with ours
  • experienced and capable leadership
  • an operating model in which we have confidence
  • evidence of success to date

Genesis operates on the assumption that risks are a part of most great endeavors. Thus, GPG is willing to share calculated risks with our grantees.

Before we award a grant, we discuss the desired outcomes as well as on criteria of success and methods of evaluation. We encourage our grantees to evaluate their work consistently and to share their reflections with others in the field.
