Hevruta – Jewish Studies for Kiev High School Students

Hevruta – Jewish Studies for Kiev High School Students

The Hevruta project was implemented by the Jewish Forum of Ukraine in collaboration with the Kiev-Mogilian Academy and Genesis Philanthropy Group. With financial support from GPG, interested high school students from Kiev and the surrounding metropolitan area had an opportunity to learn about Jewish history, religion and culture. Children were introduced to the rich heritage of the Jewish civilization through a variety of formats, including mini-courses and lectures by leading teachers from universities in Kiev and the FSU, educational trips and traditional Jewish structures, such as Beit Midrash and hevruta.

This grant is a part of Grassroots annual competition, organized by Genesis Philanthropy Group and UJA-Federation of New York. The goal of the competition is to discover and support the best local initiatives aimed at the revival of Jewish identity, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage and the development of socially active Jewish communities.

Goals and Objectives

  • Bring Jewish education and communal engagement in Ukraine to a new level through an effective and informal Jewish education environment.
  • Create interest in Jewish history and culture among Ukrainian youth.
