Jewish House

Jewish House

The Jewish House project was implemented in 2009 at the initiative of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Russian Jewish Congress and with financial support from Genesis Philanthropy Group. The project brought together teachers and parents from three Jewish schools in St. Petersburg.

Jewish House organized regular events over a 12-month period. The events led to the formation of a new community of parents with children attending Jewish schools.

The project provided members of this community with a unique opportunity to expand their understanding of Jewish education, its specificity and its special role in the formation of the Jewish identity of Diaspora children.

Participants of the Jewish House project received a powerful motivational stimulus and the knowledge necessary to integrate Jewish values into the everyday life of their families.

Goals and Objectives

  • Stimulate parents to pursue Jewish education for their kids.
  • Popularize and strengthen Jewish traditions and Jewish family values.
  • Involve parents in managing their children's education by investing in the teaching of Jewish subjects at St. Petersburg schools.

This grant is a part of Grassroots annual competition, organized by Genesis Philanthropy Group and UJA-Federation of New York. The goal of the competition is to discover and support the best local initiatives aimed at the revival of Jewish identity, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage and the development of socially active Jewish communities.
