Jewish St. Petersburg

Jewish St. Petersburg

In 2010, the ORT-SP Educational Resource Center for High Technologies implemented the Jewish Petersburg project with financial support from Genesis Philanthropy Group. Project participants were students from several high schools and universities in St. Petersburg, who were interested in Jewish history and wanted to participate in the life of the city's Jewish community. The students independently researched available historical material and learned new information management technologies. Using their new skills and knowledge, participants created a website to disseminate information about the Jewish community of St. Petersburg. The website offers information on significant sites in the city's Jewish history and on contemporary community life.

Financial support for the project was provided by Genesis Philanthropy Group and World ORT.

This grant is a part of Grassroots annual competition, organized by Genesis Philanthropy Group and UJA-Federation of New York. The goal of the competition is to discover and support the best local initiatives aimed at the revival of Jewish identity, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage and the development of socially active Jewish communities.

Goals and Objectives

  • Increase the interest of young people in the history and contemporary life of the St. Petersburg Jewish community.
