Masorti: Children’s Cartoons Depicting History and Traditions of Jewish Holidays

Masorti: Children’s Cartoons Depicting History and Traditions of Jewish Holidays

  • Grant period: 2012
In 2012, Genesis Philanthropy Group supported a series of workshops for educators working in St. Petersburg Jewish Sunday schools and kindergartens.

The workshops taught participants to create animated films about Jewish history and traditions. Both adults and children worked together on creating cartoons that can then be used to educate others on Jewish history and culture.

In addition to the Genesis Philanthropy Group, the project was supported by the Adain Lo Jewish Family Center in St. Petersburg.

This grant is a part of Grassroots annual competition, organized by Genesis Philanthropy Group and UJA-Federation of New York. The goal of the competition is to discover and support the best local initiatives aimed at the revival of Jewish identity, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage and the development of socially active Jewish communities.

Goals and Objectives

  • Provide Jewish educators with a unique method of teaching Jewish history and traditions through cartoons.
  • Form participant groups from various Jewish organizations in St. Petersburg.
  • Conduct workshops and provide further consultations for participants.
  • Analyze workshops and prepare methodological materials for educators.
