Grants in the Former Soviet Union

Publication of the Ukrainian Translation of the Oxford Handbook of Jewish Studies for University Students

Publication of the Ukrainian Translation of the Oxford Handbook of Jewish Studies for University Students

Genesis Philanthropy Group supported the Ukrainian translation and publication of the Oxford Handbook of Jewish Studies.

It will be used as the main textbook for studying Jewish history and culture in Ukrainian universities. It will also serve as a reference resource for teachers of history, literature and art in Jewish schools where instruction in humanities is conducted entirely in Ukrainian (as required by Ukrainian law). The grant will support the distribution of free copies of the handbook for all leading universities in Ukraine, Jewish schools and other educational and research institutions (for example, copies of the handbook will be sent to the Judaica collection at the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine).

The project is supported jointly by the Genesis Philanthropy Group and the Dar Education Charity Foundation.

This grant is a part of Grassroots annual competition, organized by Genesis Philanthropy Group and UJA-Federation of New York. The goal of the competition is to discover and support the best local initiatives aimed at the revival of Jewish identity, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage and the development of socially active Jewish communities.
