Support for Students Majoring in Jewish Studies at the St. Petersburg State University

In 2009–2010, the Center for Bible and Jewish Studies at the St. Petersburg State University received a grant from Genesis Philanthropy Group intended to provide free tuition for four first-year students.

The grant is intended to cover tuition costs for students and support junior faculty, as well as fund the publication and dissemination of material about the Center. In March 2011, the Center opened a Department of Jewish Culture, which received major support from GPG. The grant also supports educational projects initiated by Department members for St. Petersburg Jewish communal organizations. Part of the grant covers new offices for Department members.

The Department prepares future scholars specializing in Jewish Culture who, upon graduation, can carry out research, teach in Jewish schools, work as social and communal activists and support and develop Jewish communities in St. Petersburg and other Russian cities.

This grant is a part of Genesis Philanthropy Group large program which supports Academic Jewish Studies in the FSU.
