Teacher of the Year: A Professional Competition for Jewish Schools Teachers

Teacher of the Year: A Professional Competition for Jewish Schools Teachers

The International Jewish School Teachers' Festival is organized by the Regional Center for Modeling of Activities for Organizations with a Jewish Ethno-Cultural Educational Component. The festival includes a competition between educators who teach Hebrew, Jewish history, literature, traditions, or other subjects with an integrated Jewish component, such as music or visual arts. It is open to Jewish schools in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltic States. Participants have an opportunity to network and share experience and teaching materials with a broad audience. The winning teaching materials are published (both print and electronic) with commentary from the authors.

The festival is supported by Genesis Philanthropy Group and World ORT Organization.

Goals and Objectives

  • Influence public opinion to view Jewish education as a social institution, which determines priorities in the development of the Jewish Diaspora.
  • Develop an understanding of the concept of Jewish identity in Jewish schools through the work of the festival competitors.
  • Provide teachers with opportunities for professional growth and to improve the system of Jewish education.
  • Create continuing education opportunities – including learning computer-based technologies – for teachers from Jewish schools.
