The Encyclopedia of Russian Jewry

The Israel-Russia Encyclopedia Center is compiling the first publication on the Jews of Russia. Work on the Encyclopedia of Russian Jewry has been in progress since 1992, with six volumes of biographies on influential Russian Jews and the 500-year history of Jewish communities in Russia and the FSU. The Encyclopedia is available in print and in electronic form. In 2011, Genesis Philanthropy Group supported the publication of the 7th volume of the Encyclopedia of Russian Jewry.

Goals and Objectives

  • Support the dissemination of Jewish knowledge through the popularization of scientific research on the sudject.
  • Inspire Russian Jews and their descendants to discover their familial histories.
  • Create a source of written information on the lives of Jews residing on Russian territory for the past 500 years (especially the fates of Russian-speaking Jews during the Holocaust).
  • Promote the contributions of Jewish Red Army soldiers in World War II.
