Women in Biblical Literature

In 2011, with the support of Genesis Philanthropy Group, the Bridges of Culture Publishing House began the Russian translation of an original Hebrew popular science book – Beloved and Hated: Women in the Bible, Midrash and Modern Hebrew Literature – by professor Aliza Shenhar.

Dr. Shenhar is a former Israeli Ambassador to the Russian Federation, a former Rector of the University of Haifa and current President of Emek Yezreel College. Her research focuses on folklore and its influences on modern literature.

The book will be widely advertised to Russian-speaking audiences through published reviews, presentations at book fairs, scientific conferences and seminars.

Goals and Objectives

  • Highlight contemporary research on gender issues in biblical texts.
  • Widen the audience of future readers through targeted measures and mass media in Russia and the Russian-speaking Diaspora.
