GPG Funding in the Former Soviet Union

Jewish life in the FSU has gone through a renaissance in the past fifteen years and yet the vast majority of Jews living in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other FSU countries are not meaningfully engaged in Jewish life. Those who desire otherwise have a limited range of options in comparison to their peers in North America, Western Europe, and Israel. Arguably, countries like Argentina provide richer opportunities for Jewish children, youth and their parents to engage in pluralistic Jewish educational and cultural activities than do many parts of the FSU.

Thus GPG's strategy for the FSU is to support leading established Jewish organizations and projects, as well as to encourage and foster new initiatives targeting unaffiliated youth and young adults. Our goal is to ensure that Jewish youth and young Jewish parents have multiple exciting options for engagement with Jewish values and heritage.
